The Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday, 17 July, submitted a detailed reply to the Supreme Court in connection with the deaths of Vikas Dubey and his associates. Stating that the “encounters” were correct and cannot be termed fake.

The reply by the UP police came after the Supreme Court on 14 July had allowed Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to file his response to the pleas seeking a probe into the alleged police encounter of Dubey by Monday, 20 July, and listed the matter for hearing on that date.

Vikas Dubey Case:

The UP government has defended Vikas Dubey's encounter in the Supreme Court, saying the Kanpur gangster was asked to surrender but he refused and fired at the police.

In its affidavit in the Vikas Dubey encounter case, the government has said that the vehicle, which was ferrying the gangster to Kanpur from Ujjain, overturned due to rain and speed.

UP Police:

The UP government said, "Police personnel in the vehicle got seriously injured. Vikas Dubey took the pistol from one of the injured personnel." The affidavit mentions that Vikas Dubey was asked to surrender but refused to do so and fired at the police.

"The only option available to the escort party, under the circumstances was to fire back in self defence". Adding an inquiry commission has already been set up.

Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter on the morning of July 10 when a police vehicle carrying him from Ujjain to Kanpur met with an accident and he tried to escape from the spot in Bhauti area, the police have claimed.

Vikas Dubey was killed a week after eight policemen. Including DSP Devendra Mishra, were ambushed in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur. In addition, when they were going to arrest the gangster. Bullets fired from rooftops shortly after midnight on July 3.

Different From Hyderabad Case:

In its affidavit, that the facts in the Hyderabad encounter case were different from the Vikas Dubey encounter case.

The petitions will be heard by the Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde on Monday.
