Varanasi DM orders probe into women players' sexual harassment case

Varanasi: The District Magistrate of Varanasi has ordered probe into the complaints by women badminton players of Sampoornanand Sports Complex here about sexual harassment by their coach Shyam Dhar Ojha.

The order for the inquiry came after the players threatened to go to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath if their complaints were not heard. The DM ordered the probe while the statements of the victims players were recorded by a magistrate.

The women players alleged that their coach Ojha had been asking for sexual favour from them and threatening to jeopardise their career if they did not do so. Ojha, on other hand, is denying the allegations saying those were ill-motivated against him.

It may be recalled that similar allegations had surfaced in Babu Banarasi Das badminton academy in Lucknow where such allegations were levelled against Badminton administrator Vijay Sinha an his son Nishant Sinha.
