Ghazipur: Due to the production of colours all the year round since Independence, an area in Saidpur town of Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, was named ‘Rang Mohalla’ (locality of colours).

‘Rang Mohalla’ was once so charismatic that it used to be the cynosure of the entire district. But changing times have taken away its charm, leaving the locality of colours achromatic.

There was a time when manufacturing colours was the only source of income of the whole area. Now with technology dominating the scene and inflation rising high, the ‘Rang Mohalla’ has lost its colour to poverty.

  • There was an era when each resident of ‘Rang Mohalla’ was involved in the business of making colours.
  • According to the residents of 'Rang Mohalla', the usage of colours has fallen in recent years.
  • The colours made in this locality were also used in clothes. The practice has now become outdated due to the launch of electronic printing machines.
  • The people of the locality have now taken up other occupations to earn their livelihood.
