SP, Additional SP injured in a clash inside Deoria jail in UP
Deoria: In yet another clash inside a jail in Uttar Pradesh, over 12 persons including SP, Additional SP and several prisoners were injured in Deoria District Jail on Tuesday morning.
The trouble began when two groups of jail inmates scuffled with one another over drugs. In order to repulse police intervention they engaged themselves in pitched battle with the police in which Superintendent of Police Prabhakar Chaudhary and Addtional SP Narendra Singh and eight other policemen got injured, District Magistrate Anita Srivastava said.
The scuffle which started at 0700 hrs could be controlled after additional force including PAC was requisitioned. Situation was brought under control soon while a probe ordered, the DM said.
Highlights:
- Police used water jets, fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets to control the crowd.
- Some barracks have been damaged in the jail.
- Jail inmates threw stones which injured the policemen.
