Ballia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched his ambitious project – Ujjwala scheme, in Ballia of Uttar Pradesh to provide five crore free cooking gas connections to below poverty line (BPL) families.

The Ujjwala scheme aims at providing gas connections to those 5 crores families which are in below the poverty line (BPL) by 2019.

Expressed concern over the development of Uttar Pradesh

Expressing concern over the poverty and backwardness of Uttar Pradesh, Modi said, he would not leave any stone unturned to develop this state in the given time.

“Uttar Pradesh has given the maximum numbers of Prime Minister to this nation, then what is the reason that poverty has increased to such an extent,” he asked.

  • No rail lines in Mau and Tadighat even after 50 years of independence.
  • 1529 villages of UP did not have electricity supply before I took over.
  • The government is working to provide electricity in 3 villages in a day.
  • Electricity has been supplied to 1326 villages after the formation of my government.
  • Uttar Pradesh is my ‘karm bhoomi’.

Scheme been made for vote banks:

Modi said the main reason for increase in poverty and backwardness was that schemes were not been made for the welfare of people but for vote banks.

  • The empowerment of poor is very necessary to remove poverty.

Have not come here to sound election bugle

The Prime Minister taking a jibe at political pundits said that he has not come to Ballia to sound the election bugle as the reason to start this scheme from Ballia was the less number of LPG connections in the district.

  • Some people do not have anything to do with politics, he said.
  • It is very easy to comment while sitting in cosy air-conditioned office in New Delhi.
  • Sounding the bugle is the work of voters.

Worked for the labours:

We changed labour law for uplifting labours, PM Modi said.

  • Minimum salary increased to Rs 21,000 to Rs 10,000.
  • Amount of bonus increased to Rs 7000 from Rs 3500.
  • A labour identity number (LIN) has been started by the government.

Wins heart:

The Prime Minister know how to win the hearts of public. A loud round of applause and chants of 'Modi-Modi' was heard when Modi started his address in the local dialect.

'Bhragu Ji Kee Dharti Par Rauva Saban Kay Pranaam'

  • This land of Ballia is a revolutionary land.
  • This land gave us Mangal Pandey. People from here give their lives to the nation.
