Varanasi: Why a temple built in 1905 has been named as ‘Pakistan Mahadev temple’ while Pakistan was born in 1947? Varanasi Development Authority (VDA), Varanasi Nagar Nigam and the district administration are clueless about the fact.

It came to light when VDA issued notices to the buildings and temples on Ganga Ghat and found the ‘Pakistan Mahadev’ temple at number 382 in the list.

A former Uttar Pradesh minister Shatrudra Prakash has raised the issue and put question marks on the working of Varanasi Development Authority.

What Shatrudra said?

  • VDU conducted the survey of temples and buildings on the order of Allahabad High Court.
  • Notices were served to 579 buildings and temples.
  • The VDA registered the name of temple as ‘Pakistan Mahadev’ without knowing about its history, he claimed.
  • The temple is situated at Ganga Ghat near Sheetla temple.

The temple

  • Records say that the temple was established here in 1905 by one Janki Devi of Bengal.
  • People do not know why this temple is known as Pakistan Mahadev temple.
