Kanhaiyaa issue has maligned the image of nation: Mahesh Sharma

Varanasi: Union Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma said that Kanhaiyaa issue has maligned the image of country on an international level and it may affect the tourism industry.

The Union Minister was speaking at the Banaras Hindu University on Saturday.

“Educational institutes like Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) and others should learn from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) where emphasis is on academics and research rather than politics,” he said.

On Assam elections:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have teamed up for the Assembly elections in Assam, he said. Adding, the BJP may also go with political parties of same ideologies in other states also.

The Kanhaiyaa issue:

• Kanhaiyaa is the president of Jawaharlal Nehru University student union.
• He was jailed on the charges of raising anti-India slogans.
• He was bailed out on Thursday last.
