Allahabad HC directs Banaras Hindu University authorities to withhold the appointment of professors

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court has directed the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) authorities to withhold proceeding with the selection of around five hundred teaching posts that it had advertised in 2016-17.

It could be mentioned that the BHU had advertised for the teaching posts that included the posts of professors, associate professors and assistant professors.

The court, however, made it clear that as far as appointment in the non-teaching posts is concerned, the BHU authorities are free to proceed.

The verdict came while the division bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Daya Shankar was hearing writ petitions filed by Anand Dev Rai and three others. The division bench directed the BHU authorities and another to file reply (counter affidavit) in response to the writ petition.

It was alleged in the writ petition that irregularities were committed in providing reservation as per the roistering system and all established norms of appointment were violated.
