Gorakhpur faces flood-like situation; govt orders to evacuate colony

Gorakhpur: The parliamentary constituency of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Gorakhpur, is currently facing flood-like situation after the door of the regulator at Herbert Dam, located near Domingarh, got dismantled.

The water logging in the city started at around 4 am on Wednesday and continued throughout the day. It may be mentioned that Herbert dam is made on the Rapti River,

Following the leakage at the regulator No. 7, 9 and 10, the water logged at several colonies including Transport Nagar, Elahi Bagh, Turkmanpur, Hansupur, Mohanlalpur, Bahrampur and Zafar Colony.

The district administration has ordered to cordon off Zafar colony immediately as the water level is expected to rise.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, however, has reached to the location and has launched the rescue operations.

The flood-like situation has most affected the small businessmen of Transport Nagar and Hansupur regions. According to the official confirmation, a total of 18,000 people are affected due to the floods.

After receiving the report of breakage of regulator sheet, Tiwaripur police station in-charge immediately rushed to the location. Subsequently, SDM and DM also visited the place. The District Magistrate took a survey of the Zafar colony on a boat.

Soon, the Herbert Dam was visited by Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, Municipal Commissioner and Executive Engineer (Irrigation) Ramavtar Singh.

Primary steps have been taken successfully to stop the leakage. Now, the district administration is using pump to clear the logged water from the city.
