Mahoba: It's been a month of dramatic wedding scenes in India. Most weddings in India are shelved for reasons like illiteracy, not getting along with each other, families, etc. And just when you thought you have seen everything, a new one takes you by surprise. A bride in Mahoba reportedly called off her marriage after taking six rounds of the sacred fire, also called 'pheras'. The incident took place in a village in Kulpahad tehsil, according to an IANS report.

Seven 'pheras' or rounds are taken around the fire by the bride and the groom together to complete the marriage rituals, as per Hindu tradition.

It is said that both the bride and groom's friends and relatives tried their best to convince her to get married but she refused to change her decision. The matter got so serious that the panchayat had to intervene in the middle of the night. When asked why she didn't complete the rounds, she said she didn't like the groom. Following the incident, the groom's father asked why the bride participated in other rituals if she had no plans of completing the marriage.

When the bride got down from the car after reaching her in-laws' house, she slapped the groom. She then changed her bridal lehenga and returned to her parents' house wearing casual clothes.

The groom's family was preparing to welcome the bride after the wedding ceremony when the drama unfolded. As the bride returned to her parents' house, the news spread like wildfire in the whole village. According to a preliminary investigation, a love affair has come to light, which is the reason why the bride slapped the groom, Zee News reported.

In another case, a bride called off her wedding as the groom failed to read a newspaper without spectacles.

Bride calls off the wedding as groom fails to read newspaper

A wedding in Uttar Pradesh was called off when the bride found out about the groom's weak eyesight. The incident took place in Auraiya, UP, when Arjun Singh fixed the marriage of his daughter, Archana, with Shivam. Arjun Singh chose Shivam as he was a literate and educated man; the wedding procession had already begun and Arjun gifted a motorcycle to the groom for Shagun.

The bride and her family got suspicious of the act and guessed that the groom has weak eyesight. On suspicion, the groom was asked to read a Hindi newspaper without his glasses, and he failed to do so. It was proved that the groom was unable to see without the glasses following which the bride called off the wedding and her family supported the decision.

This week, a groom walked out of his wedding after the bride's family did not serve mutton to the baraatis in Jajpur's Sukinda.
