Lucknow: The reshuffle in administrative and police machinery has been the favourite pastime of previous Uttar Pradesh governments – Akhilesh Yadav regime was no exception.

The previous Samajwadi Party government kept juggling the IPS officers throughout its tenure. At an average, one IPS officer was transferred six times during the past five years.

Among the 407 IPS officials, who were reshuffled 2,454 times during SP's regime, Umesh Kumar Srivastava suffered most number of transfers (20), while Kamal Saxena and Sanjay M Tarde were never shifted.

Where Kamal Saxena and Sanjay M Tarde are able to maintain their hold at their jurisdiction even in the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, there are 78 such IPS officials who were transferred for more than 10 times in the past five years.

According to an analysis, the former Akhilesh Yadav government was reshuffling at least four IPS officials in every three days. The stats clearly prove that the SP government was running a 'transfer industry' in the state, an allegation that the party's rivals had been levelling since long.

Umesh Srivastava, who was reshuffled 20 times under the Samajwadi rule in the state, executed his duties in several districts including Allahabad, Faizabad, Saharanpur and Moradabad. He was also made the Captain of Uttar Pradesh anti-terrorism squad twice.

Anees Ahmed is second in the list with 18 transfers during the past five years. Over the period, he served in districts like Bijnor, Bulandshahr, Ballia and Etah. He was shifted to Hardoi during 2014 Lok Sabha elections, while in 2017 UP Assembly polls, he was in-charge of law and order in Amethi. He also delivered his duties as SP Lucknow Railways.

Rajendra Prasad Pandey and Dileep Kumar Singh were transferred 17 and 16 times, respectively. IPS officer Himanshu Kumar, who has been suspended by the current state government over charges of indiscipline, was transferred 15 times in the previous government. There are five more such IPS officials who were shifted 15 times.

Amitabh Thakur is the only IPS officer who remained suspended for as long as 10 months during Samajwadi Party government in UP.
