UP CS Rahul Bhatnagar orders checking at petrol pumps across state

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar on Saturday directed all District Magistrates to take effective action to stop rumours about salt shortage in market and to maintain law and order.

In order to prevent black marketing of salt, he has instructed all DMs, senior police officials, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, District Supply Officers, officials of Commercials Tax, Food and Drugs, Weight and Measurement departments to conduct joint raids and inquiry.

He said that if anyone was found hoarding salt for black marketing, stringent legal action should be initiated against such persons.

Chief Secretary has issued these directions through a circular today. He has said that people should be informed through wide publicity that ample salt is available in markets, shopping malls, etc.

Bhatnagar has said that salt manufacturers had informed that there was no shortage of salt and sufficient quantity is available. Therefore, there is no issue of shortage or unavailability of salt. Chief Secretary has appealed to the public not to believe in misleading rumours.
