Lucknow: Clipping the wings of private medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, the state government on Friday ruled that the fee of half of the MBBS and BDS seats available in these institutions should be equal to government colleges.

The government’s decision has apparently given much relief to students seeking to get enrolled at these colleges. Moreover, the mandate came a day ahead of the admission counselling of candidates who cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

According to the fresh mandate, as many as 1550 MBBS and 1150 BDS seats of these private colleges should be offered at the fee being charged in government institutions, Rs 36,000 per year.

Other highlights:

  • The standard fee taken by the private medical colleges of the state is between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 20 lakh.
  • There is an availability of 1544 MBBS and 51 BDS seats in private colleges of the state this year.
  • The counselling for admission in all private as well as government medical colleges of UP will begin from Saturday.
