Not action but Police inaction speaks loud and clear in UP

Mahoba ( Uttar Pradesh): There is at least one Dalit family in this district in Uttar Pradesh which cannot sing the Uttar Pradesh government's theme song, Kam Bolta Hai (works speak themselves) . For, a family girl who was regularly harassed by a young boy committed suicide because the state police did not take timely action against him.

The much hyped 1090 special service for protection of girls provided by the Samajwadi government too failed to save her life.

Throughout the campaigning for the current elections in the state, chief minister , Akhilesh Yadav, has highlighted it as one of his government's achievements during its five-year rule.

Giving party's rival, Bahujan Samajwadi Party, a stick to beat the government and to cite another example of failure of law and order machinery, the incident which took place a couple of days ago, has come as a shock across the state. To the family's misfortune, she was its only child which has added to their worries.

The tormentor belonged to an influential family. That may be a reason why no action was taken by the town police against him. She was living in Subhash Nagar locality and was a second year student in a degree college. The boy was studying in the same college.

He has been stalking her for the past sometime. A complaint was made in this regard by family members in Subhash Nagar police station. After officials of this' thana' failed to act, special cell ( 1090) was approached which has been set up for redressal of such grievances.

As there was no change in the situation and the boy continued to traumatize her she found suicide as a better option.
