New Delhi: Head of the Dalit-rights outfit Bhim Army Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’ has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police in Dalhousie town of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday.

According the police, the 30-year-old Chandrashekhar is a lawyer and was the mastermind of the violence that erupted in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh earlier.

Ravi Kumar Gautam, leader of the Bhim Army’s youth wing, confirmed the arrest stating “Chandrashekhar was in Himachal Pradesh where he was arrested by a team of UP Police. They came here in civil dress and took him away.”

It could be recalled that UP Police had, recently, declared a reward of Rs 12,000 each for information leading to the capture of Chandrashekhar and his two associates.

It could be recalled that tensions in Saharanpur have prevailed since May 5 last when a scuffle took place, between two communities, over loud music being played during a procession to commemorate the birth anniversary of Rajput king Maharana Pratap.
