Major Lord Krishna temples, especially in Mathura and Vrindavan, across the country were decked up as millions of devotees thronged the them on the occasion of Janmashtami as the festival was being celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour.

Large crowds of the devotees flocked Mathura, the birth place of Lord Krishna, to lay obeisance at the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, and other famous temples in the town.

The famous Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan was also flocked by thousands of devotees from across the country and also abroad. Large crowds of devotees also thronged the Badrinath Temple in Uttarakhand and Shrinath ji in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan.

Authorities in Mathura have made extensive security arrangements to regulate the crowds of the devotees and advisories were issued asking the old people not to visit the temple town on this occasion.

According to the reports, Janmashtami was celebrated on Wednesday at many places while it would be celebrated in Mathura and Vrindavan on Thursday. The festivities started from the night of Wednesday and would continue till midnight on Thursday.

The idols of Lord Krishna were decked up in beautifully decorated and stitched clothes at different temples. UP jail minister Dharamvir Prajapati, who paid obeisance at the Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan on Wednesday, presented especially designed clothes for Lord Krishna which were prepared by the inmates of the prison.

Large queues of devotees were witnessed before the Krishna temples since dawn on Thursday. In Jaipur the famous Govind Devji temple was beautifully decorated fr the devotees, who started lining up since 4 in the morning.

Unprecedented security arrangements have been made in the national capital of Delhi in view of the upcoming G 20 meeting and other important religious places. Political leaders greeted the people on this occasion.
