New Delhi: An investigation team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday confirmed the migration of Hindu families from Kairana in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh owing to a spurt in crime and deteriorated law and order situation in the region.

Based on findings, the Commission has given a notice to Director General of Police (DGP) as well as Chief Secretary of the state to submit an action taken report within eight weeks.

Witnesses, victims, concerned police officials as well as the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) were examined by the team in this connection. Moreover, the team had also obtained and analysed the copies of relevant records while preparing the report.

It may be recalled that a Samajwadi Party-backed delegation of saints led by Acharya Pramod Krishnan had visited Kairana in June last to take stock of the situation arising out of alleged migration by Hindu families following extortion.
