Bulandshahr: A lot of dust is being kicked by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) over the custodial death of 75-year-old Omi Lal. The latest to join the pro-Omi campaign is the BJP minister of state for Agriculture and Food Processing Sanjeev Balyan.

“Human rights are being violated at the drop of a hat,” said Balyan on Sunday and added, “Policemen have been given full freedom to act at will and do anything of their liking. Commoners have no say and suffering at their hands badly. The main aim is to collect money and distribute the loot among the colleagues,” said Balyan.

What else Balyan said:

  • The death of an elderly person under police custody is a serious matter and actions should be taken against culprits for the inhuman act.
  • A proper inquiry should be held and responsibility fixed for the heinous act.

Omi Lal’s death:

  • The old man died in police custody allegedly due to torture at Sawaran police station in Bulandshahr city d of UP on Friday last.
  • He was a resident of Dhakar village and was arrested for molesting an eight-year-old girl.
  • Police claimed that Omi died after consuming poison and registered a suicide case while his family members alleged that he died of police torture.
