Nagar Ayukt of Meerut faces contempt notice from Allahabad HC

Allahabad: Allahabad High Court on Thursday issued contempt notices to Municipal Commissioner, Meerut for not filing proper and satisfactory affidavit and directed to appear on next date of hearing which is fixed on March 31.

The Court has also directed Vice-Chairman and secretary of Meerut development Authority to appear on the next date of hearing as the authority failed to file proper reply as asked by the Court.

The Bench comprised of Chief Justice Dr DY Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Varma passed the above order while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Virendra Kumar a Meerut based social worker. Petitioner’s allegation was that certain public land was illegally encroached and despite the demolition order was passed by the authorities, no heed was paid to the same.

Earlier, Court had directed the Authority to apprise it on the action taken on the demolition order. But authorities failed to file a proper reply on affidavit.
