Main accused of Bulandshahr Violence, Yogesh Raj arrested

Yogesh was arrested from Khurja late on Wednesday night. Prior to this, the police had arrested Kalua and Prashant Natt, who is suspected to have snatched Singh’s revolver and shot him in the head.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested main accused in the Bulandshahr violence, Bajrang Dal leader Yogesh Raj on Thursday, after 31 days, according to a report.

District co-coordinator of Bajrang Dal, , Raj’s arrest came three days after a key accused, Kalua in the murder of Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh during the mob violence in UP's Bulandshahr district, was arrested from Bulandshahr’s Aurangabad area. Kalua had allegedly attacked the inspector with an axe.

The complainant in the alleged cow slaughter case of Bulandshahr, Yogesh Raj was on the run after the incident which took place on December 3, 2018. A police officer and a 20-year-old man were killed in the violence.

A few days after the mob violence, Raj had denied any role in the incident in a video statement. Yogesh is accused of inciting violence.

Apart from Yogesh, former Shyyanagar President of BJYM Shikhar Agarwal, one of the accused in the case, has got 30 days of security from the court.

However, both of them have claimed themselves to be innocent through a video, after the violence. The police has made 31 arrests in Bulandshahr violence so far.

It is to be mentioned that the Bulandshahr voilence was incited over an alleged cow slaughter case, in which two people, including Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, were killed.

In the aftermath of the violence, The Hindu Yuva Vahini and Bajrang Dal activists vandalized vehicles and attacked police officials. They torched several passing vehicles.

Yogesh Raj, the main accused of the case used to do a private job but later became the district coordinator of the Bajrang Dal in 2016.
