UP government orders judicial inquiry into Mathura madness

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday appointed a judicial commission to inquire into Mathura violence which has led to killing of 24 persons, including two police officers.

The one-man commission will be headed by retired Allahabad high court justice Mirza Imtiaz Murtaza. Headquartered in Lucknow, the commission will submit its report in two months.

The following are the terms and references:

  • Reasons and conditions leading to the violence.
  • Role of district police and administrative officers.
  • Lapses, if any.
  • Steps taken to vacate the area from encroachers.
  • The commission will be asked to give suggestions to prevent such incidents in future.
