We tried to make IS terrorist surrender: ADG Daljit Chaudhary

Lucknow: Following the successful neutralisation of terror operation by UP Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), the Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday made it clear that the ATS tried to make IS terrorist Saifullah surrender or nab him alive, but he was killed in retaliatory firing.

"We excercised utmost patience to make him surrender but the terrorist was in combat mood refusing to budge which resulted into his killing," Additional Director General (Law and Order) Daljit Chaudhary told the reporters. He was holed up in a house located in Hajipur colony under Kakori police station of the state capital, where the ATS had reached on a tip off from the Madhya Pradesh police.

He also said that eight pistols, more than 600 cartridges, bomb making instruments, pellets, timers, wires, etc. were recovered from the house of the terrorist. He added that 45 grams gold and foreign currency was also recovered.

"Saifullah and others were involved in the Bhopal-Ujjain train explosion which took place on Tuesday. We are still unaware about their prime target," said ADG Daljit Chaudhary while addressing a press conference here.

• We nabbed three suspected ISIS terrorists from different locations of the state.
• Following the joint search operations of police and ATS, state was saved from a big mishap.
• We, however, have no such evidence of Saifullah having ISIS link.
• Aasifi Imambara and Deva mela were two major targets of terrorists.

It could be mentioned here that Saifullah was gunned down after 11-hour armed encounter with Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of UP in Thakurganj area of Lucknow in the early hours on Wednesday.
