Lucknow: Going by the reaction of the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders it appears that days are not far off when party M P Subramanian Swamy will find himself alone in demanding removal of Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan. Leader after leader of the party is distancing himself from him on this issue.

It was party president Amit Shah who had come out first in Rajan’s defence. He had pointed out that the views expressed by Swamy on the governor was his own and not that of the party. It was followed by the assertion of the finance minister Arun Jaitley that personal attack should be avoided.

The minister offered no comment on whether the government will extend his tenure which expires in September saying these matters are not discussed publicly, but it was after his advice to Swamy to leave the governor alone.

Swamy who has made several controversial remarks in the past, however, does not seem to have taken notice of any of these statements. For, continuing his tirade he has shot off another letter to the Prime Minister and in support of his demand he has levelled a serious anti-national charge against him.

The issue seems to have taken an ugly turn and dragged into controversy an institution which was kept out of it all these years. Young netizens have a similar feeling and signed an on-line appeal in this regard.
