Shahjahanpur: In a humane gesture, the District Magistrate of Shahjahanpur, Vijay Kiran Anand, donated blood to a needy woman, who was admitted in the district hospital, where the DM was on inspection on Saturday last.

“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” The DM seemingly followed that quotation by the famous English writer and Baptist preacher John Bunyan (1628-88) and helped the poor lady to resuscitate.

The 23-year-old woman, Reena, needed four units of 'ab -ve' blood group. Her husband being a daily labourer was unable to arrange blood for his wife. Even her brother had made futile visits to the local blood-bank as it did not have blood of the required group. Reena was having pain in her kidney.

The DM, who happened to reach the hospital for inspection, started meeting the patients after inspecting the trauma centre. During this interaction, Reena’s mother approached Anand and disclosed her problem. The angry DM, then, fired the blood bank officials before asking them to take his blood in exchange of the blood to be given to Reena.

The humanitarian act of the DM has won him accolades from the commoners.
