Lucknow: Oil and Natural Gas corporation (ONGC) will provide assistance to the tune of Rs ten crores to the Lucknow University to set up a hydrocarbon-cum- geo- resource centre on the campus.

A team of the company officials came here on Wednesday, met university officials including the Vice-chancellor S B Nimse and discussed the proposal with them.

The university had demanded additional Rs ten crores to provide new facilities at the Centre. Chancellor and state governor Ram Naik has backed the demand and written a letter to the company in this connection. It is yet to decide on the issue.

A new course related to petroleum and its products will be introduced at the Centre for the science students which will create a new job opportunity.
