Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati was caught on the back foot after expelled Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dayashankar Singh’s wife and mother registered a complaint against her, accusing the chief and her party people of making derogatory remarks against the family.

It may be mentioned that Swati was most peeved by Behen Ji's supporters, who raised objectionable slogans while protesting against BJP in the state capital on Friday last. Subsequently, the BSP chief on Saturday rushed to Lucknow from the national capital and hours later her party cancelled the protest it had announced to hold at all divisional headquarters on Monday to pressurise the government into Dayashankar’s arrest.

Moreover, the chief said the demeaning remarks were perhaps shouted out by some 'antisocial elements' involved in the protest.

It may be recalled that the former BJP Uttar Pradesh vice-president’s wife Swati Singh and mother Tetara Devi registered a complaint against the BSP supremo, chief secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui, national secretary Mewalal as well as Ram Achal Rajbhar.

What Mayawati said:

  • The BSP does not intend to slander anyone.
  • I have always asked my party people to treat other parties and their associates with respect.
  • Those offensive slogans were probably raised by some antisocial elements with an intent to defame the party.
