Teacher dies in police lathicharge, CM Akhilesh announces ex-gratia

Lucknow: A teacher lost his life and 50 others sustained injuries on Wednesday following a lathicharge by police over protesting teachers in Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh.

The mishap took place when state government teachers were protesting regarding the renewal of the old pension system. The mass protest was launched by the All Teacher Employees Welfare Association (ATEWA).

When ATEWA members were protesting outside SPM Civil Hospital, a teacher died owing to baton charge by police. Constable Abhishek Pratap Singh, however, has been suspended over the same.

“Almost 50 of us are injured and one has died. Police brutally baton-charged us, we want action against these drunk police men,” said a protester.

Senior Superintendent Manzil Saini, however, said there was no any sign of injury on the dead body. “Enquiry is in progress and the picture will be cleared after post-mortem,” said Manzil Saini.

Following the same, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minster Akhilesh Yadav announced ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the family of a kin.
