Lucknow: Defending Rs 104 crore bank deposit, Bahuajan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Tuesday said post-demonetisation we deposited money in party’s account as per Income Tax norms.

She also launched scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying, “they are misusing power to malign the image of our party.”

“I want to tell the PM that if you have any honesty and sincerity, you should make public any major expense, statement of deposits and expenditures of the BJP,” Mayawati added.

Earlier, in a major crackdown by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Cash deposits of over Rs 100 crores in the account of Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Rs 1.43cr in her brother Anand Kumar’s account in Delhi were found on Monday.

The huge amount was deposited at the Karol Bagh branch of United Bank of India.

ED sources said that they were on a routine enquiry in the bank when they detected huge cash deposits post-demonetisation in these two accounts.

It was also informed by the ED sources that Rs 102 crore was deposited in old Rs 1000 currency notes and Rs 3cr was deposited in old Rs 500 denomination notes.
