Congress leader Kapil Sibal files nomination for Rajya Sabha

Lucknow: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Monday filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Jail minister Ramuwali welcomed his candidature.

• Sibal needs 36 votes to get nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
• The Congress is seven short.
• The Samajwadi Party whom Sibal has defended in the Supreme Court is likely to come to his rescue
• The Congress is also in touch with other parties for support.
• The election to fill eleven vacancies in the Rajya Sabha from the state will be held nextm month.
