Lucknow: The Election Commission has stopped the telecast of exit polls by the media from February 4 to March 8 in Uttar Pradesh considering the assembly elections which are to be held in February and March.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) T Ventakesh has issued a directive to the media stating that the telecast of opinion polls would be banned for 48 hours counting from the time the voting starts for each phase of the assembly elections.

The CEO also stated that the electronic media will also not be allowed to report the election survey of the poll bound state during the given period.

The 2017 assembly elections in the state will start from February 11 and would be conducted in five phases. The results will be declared on March 11.
