Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party chief, Mayawati, hopes to do better in Uttarakhand in the next assembly election as both the Congress and BJP have failed to live up to the expectations of the people of the hill region.

Reviewing here on Saturday the arrangements made for the poll which is scheduled to be held next year, she asked the workers to take full advantage of the people’s disappointment with the Congress government in the state.

The meeting was attended, among others, by senior party leaders and workers of Uttarakand. Her optimism was based on results of recent local bodies’ elections. The state offers vast opportunities to the party. What is needed is a concerted effort by one and all.

She also emphasised on the need of expanding the party’s base in the state by deploying more workers in the new areas. The supremo accused both the Congress and the BJP of using its natural resources to their advantage.

“They cared for themselves and not the people of the state and that is the only reason why the state has not developed to the extent it should have," she lamented.
