BSP observes nationwide 'Virodh Diwas' in protest against EVM tampering
Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party, on Tuesday, observed a nationwide stage protest to observe its first 'Virodh Diwas' over the tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) during the recently held Assembly elections both in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Party workers have started gathering at Laxman Jhula Maidan of the city . Heavy security forces and fire brigade have been deployed to the area, in view of a peaceful protest.
BSP Meerut District President Ashwin Jatav said, "The protest was named as Kala Divas, but at the last moment, the name was replaced by Virodh Divas because April 11 marks the birthday of Jyotiba Phule."
It may be mentioned that BSP Supremo Mayawati, on March 15, stated that the party would observe black day protesting against the election result which according to her was manipulated by the Bharatiya Janata Party to emerge as the largest party in the 2017 UP assembly polls and form a majority government.
She alleged that the EVM machines were doctored by the BJP in an attempt to get maximum number of votes in their favour. Moreover, the party has deceived the voters and had breached their trust.
