BSP Meerut District President Ashwin Jatav said, "The protest was named as Kala Divas, but at the last moment, the name was replaced by Virodh Divas because April 11 marks the birthday of Jyotiba Phule."

It may be mentioned that BSP Supremo Mayawati, on March 15, stated that the party would observe black day protesting against the election result which according to her was manipulated by the Bharatiya Janata Party to emerge as the largest party in the 2017 UP assembly polls and form a majority government.
