Lucknow: The inauguration of an under-construction Lok Bhawan building, which houses the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's office, during the previous Akhilesh Yadav regime, costs life of a minor girl who died after an iron gate came crashing on her.

Incident took place on Wednesday evening when Kiran, a nine-year-old girl, was playing when the gate fell on her. She was rushed to the nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries hours later.

It may be mentioned that built at a budget of Rs 602 cr, the state-of-the-art Lok Bhawan, was inaugurated in October 2014 by the former state chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The building, when it was inaugurated, and even now is under construction and opposition parties had accused the former Samajwadi Party government of cutting ribbons of unfinished projects for votebank weightage.

The shocking incident, which comes just in couple of years after the construction of the building, has also raised the eyebrows at the safety measures and material used for the construction work.

The Yogi Adityanath government, however, has announced ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakh to the family members of the deceased.

Later in the evening, government came out with a release on a plain paper which had no word about the gate collapse. It, however, announced to pay compensation.
