Lucknow University celebrates Phase-3 of Mission Shakti with theme 'Gender Equality and Health'

Today, on the 4th of September, 2020, the Department of Biochemistry, celebrated the Phase-3 of Mission Shakti. The theme of the program was 'Gender Equality and Health'.

Today, on the 4th of September, 2020, the Department of Biochemistry, celebrated the Phase-3 of Mission Shakti. The theme of the program was 'Gender Equality and Health'.

Hon'ble Madam Vice Chancellor, Mrs. Sangeeta Rai, Dr. Anshumali Sharma, State Liasion Officer (NSS), Prof. Madhurima Lall, Convener of Mission Shakti, University of Lucknow were invited as Chief guests of the event. The Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sangeeta Sharma on the topic of 'Gender Equality and Health'.

The event started by discussing the objectives and principles of Mission Shakti followed by a brief synopsis of the initiatives that were part of Phase-1 and Phase-2 of Mission Shakti.

Mission Shakti was launched by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in October last year with an emphasis on safety, dignity and empowerment of women and girls. It also focuses on the rights of children, sexual crime against women and girls and adoption of orphaned girls.

Prof. Sudhir Mehrotra, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, elaborated on the key highlights of the Phase-3 of Mission Shakti which was followed by an introductory remark by Prof. Madhurima Lall who briefed us about the aims of the flagship programme Initiated by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Dr. Anshumali Sharma briefly addressed the audience on the essence of Gender Equality.

The Guest speaker Dr. Sangeeta Sharma highlighted the importance of Gender equality, girl education, women health and empowerment through her lecture. She also discussed about the significant roles as citizens of state that one must follow.

Poster presentation on the theme of Gender equality and Health was also conducted in the Department which was assessed by the Keynote speaker, Dr. Sangeeta Sharma and Dr. Anshumali Sharma.

The students of Biochemistry and Biotechnology together prepared a skit on Gender equality along with recitation of a poem on Women Empowerment.

A documentary on the theme, Gender Equality was also screened which was prepared by the students of Biochemistry. It talked about the general stereotyping and day to day gender roles that the people are subjected to.

Lastly, the event was wrapped by presenting a memento to the Chief Guest and Guest speakers along with awarding the winners of Poster Competition.

Dr. Minal Garg proposed a formal Vote of thanks.
