BL Santosh will be in Lucknow on June 21 and 22

BJP general secretary BL Santosh will be in Lucknow on June 21 and 22. This will be his second visit to Lucknow in a month, setting off speculation about something major may happen in Uttar Pradesh's politics.

Uttar Pradesh goes to the polls early next year. The BJP is busy these days to plug every loophole that its election strategy may have in the organisation or the state government. Worried over the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2022, the BJP has held several rounds of deliberations that began in May.

The buzz in Lucknow is that BL Santosh's visit to the capital of Uttar Pradesh is part of the same political calculation. During his stay in Lucknow, BL Santosh is likely to meet ministers of the Uttar Pradesh government and office bearers of the BJP over two days to prepare the strategic groundwork for the assembly election.

The impending second visit to Lucknow by BL Santosh in a month has fuelled several conjectures in political circles. BL Santosh had held marathon meetings during May 31-June 2 visit to Lucknow. He has already submitted his report on Uttar Pradesh to the BJP leadership.

BL Santosh's meetings in Lucknow were followed by a flurry of meetings in Delhi. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath travelled to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi after holding separate deliberations with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda during his two-day visit.

These meetings led to speculation about an imminent cabinet expansion in Uttar Pradesh. However, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) and the Raj Bhavan in Lucknow have said nothing concrete about cabinet expansion since then. It is in this backdrop that another visit to Lucknow by BL Santosh is being considered significant.

During his previous visit, several BJP office bearers raised the issues of pending vacancies in the municipal corporations and state commissions with BL Santosh. They also raised the issue of lack of coordination among the officers.

A major bureaucratic reshuffle was done after BL Santosh's meetings on his previous visit to Lucknow. The government reconstituted the SC/ST Commission by making several appointments to the body.

The government on June 17 reconstituted the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Backward Classes. Former BJP state secretary Jaswant Saini was appointed as the chairman of the commission. He was deputy chairman of the commission earlier.

More such reshuffles are being anticipated as a result of BL Santosh's upcoming visit to Lucknow.
