Kanpur: A major fire broke out at a Tyre godown in Bhaunti area of the district, on late Friday night, creating panic among the workers.

No causalities were reported as the fire brigades reached in time.

The tyre godown is owned by a local resident Shivendra Shukla, and was in the business of extracting oil from waste tyres used in making charcoal.

Highlights:

  • The godown has a huge LPG cylinder and boiler. On Friday night, when the labourers were working the gas tank stared leaking which led to the outbreak of fire in the godown.
  • Since the tank was filled with gas, water could not be used to control the fire.
  • The situation was not controlled till midnight as the fire men waited for the tank to get empty of gas in it.
