Anurag Thakur to become next BCCI president, confirms Shukla

Kanpur: The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla on Friday said Anurag Thakur will be selected as the next Board of Council for Cricket in India (BCCI) president and it will be announced in a meeting scheduled for Sunday.

“Thakur is the frontrunner to become the BCCI president and there is no other strong candidate to run the board,” said Shukla after the working committee meeting of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) in Kanpur and added, “I think I won’t be able to attend the meeting but the selection of Thakur is almost certain.”

What else Shukla said:

  • The new cricket academy of UPCA will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday.
  • The three-star cricket academy has a training capacity of 160 players.
  • Veteran players Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan will be seen giving training sessions at the academy.
