Jhansi: To prevent the chemical waste of Parichcha Thermal Power Plant of Jhansi from polluting the Betwa River, a protest was staged by the workers of Bundelkhand Nirman Morcha. The workers, along with some locals, protested standing knee deep into the river on Sunday.

According to the protesters, they had been staging frequent protests against the issue for last many years but their efforts always went in vain. They alleged that the waste of the thermal plant is polluting the Betwa River, which is known to be the lifeline of Bundelkhand, by each passing day and the ashes discharging from the thermal plant pollute the environment of the surrounding villages.

Highlights:

  • The president of Buldelkhand Nirman Morcha Bhanu Sahai alleged that the officials of Pollution Control Board and the Irrigation Department had been neglecting their responsibilities.
  • Sahai demanded to register cases against these officials for not abiding by their duties.
  • He said that the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Jhansi constituency Uma Bharti is the Minister of Water Resources yet she never tried to look into the matter.
  • Sahai was firm of his decision that his team would continue to protest if the problem will not be resolved soon.
