HC raps UP govt for delay in action against petrol pump owners

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for adopting a 'childish and submissive attitude' against the corrupt petrol pump owners and thus failing to take stringent action into the matter.

The HC expressed concern over unnecessary delay in action against petrol pump owners allegedly involved in faulty fuel measurement by using a chip.

The high court bench, comprising Justice Sudhir Agarwal and Justice Virendra Kumar (II), asked the state government and oil companies to take appropriate action at the earliest and directed the state agencies to submit a status report on July 31.

The judges passed the order, related to proceedings of May 25, 2017 on a PIL seeking action against petrol pump bosses.

Earlier, chief secretary had appeared before the HC bench and had assured that the state government was taking action against petrol pump owners and claimed that the action has not been slowed down.

The court, however, took the state government to task for issuing an order on May 2, 2017, virtually tightening hands of STF from taking action against petrol pump owners.
