Girls being stalked through mobile outlets rubbish: IG Navniet Sekera

Lucknow: The founder of much-hyped 1090 Women Power Line, IG Navniet Sekera on Friday quashed the media reports claiming that recharge outlets in Uttar Pradesh are selling mobile numbers of girls to stalkers for money.

Talking to newstrack.com, Sekera said, "Reports in media are baseless and no such case till date has been registered with the 1090 women power line in this regard." Adding that it is the work of few trollers on social media who have spread such rumours.

Meanwhile, it has been reported by a leading daily that mobile recharge outlets charge from Rs 50 to Rs 500, based upon the physical appearance of a girl, for selling the mobile number across the state.

Report also said that most of the cases are coming from the state capital Lucknow followed by Kanpur Nagar, Allahabad, Varanasi, and Agra.

Stalkers take the numbers from the recharge shops and then send abusive messages, photos and even videos to girls.

Sekera, however, said that enquiry was set up after such reports came in a section of media but it all was found rubbish.

Meanwhile, over six lakh complaints have been registered with the women power line in last four years out of which, over five lakhs were related to the harassment on phone.
