Lucknow: Chairman of Shia Waqf Board Wasim Rizvi has been charged in a fraud case at the Hazratganj Police Station here on Tuesday.

Rizvi has been accused of committing fraud and embezzling funds in the Waqf Board land in Kanpur's Swaroop Nagar area.

A case has been filed under sections 420, 409 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

It may be mentioned that Wasim is close to former UP Minister Azam Khan and was made the chairman of Shia Waqf Board on latter's recommendation.

Opposition believes that the action against Rizvi has been taken on orders of lone Muslim leader in Yogi government, Mohsin Raza.
