Five fresh cases of new Coronavirus strain recorded in Meerut; tally rises to 9

Last week, four people, who recently returned from the United Kingdom, had tested positive for the new Covid strain.

Five more people have tested positive for the new strain of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh' Merrut, taking total cases of the strain in the district to nine, said District Magistrate K Balaji.

Last week, four people, who recently returned from the United Kingdom, had tested positive for the new Covid strain. Their samples were sent for testing to a laboratory in Delhi.

New Covid Strain:

The health officials and district administration have sealed the area where the new cases were found for 14 days. “We have identified persons who came in contact with these infected persons and they would also be admitted in isolation in order to prevent further spread of the virus,” Divisional surveillance officer Dr Ashok Taliyan had said.

UP reported 646 fresh Covid-19 cases and 12 fatalities on Saturday. With new cases, the total number of infected persons in the state has reached to 5,92,475. While the death toll has risen to 8,481.
