FICCI FLO organizes a virtual conversation on 'Sexual Crimes Against Women' with Tara Kaushal
This session was an incisive and thought provoking one with celebrated author, Ms. TARA KAUSHAL, and was aimed at understanding the psyche of the people who perpetuate sexual crimes against women.
LUCKNOW: FICCI FLO Lucknow organised a virtual conversation - Sexual Crimes Against Women: Motives and Methods to the Madness with Ms. Tara Kaushal on 12th of January, 2021. This session was an incisive and thought provoking one with celebrated author, Ms. TARA KAUSHAL, and was aimed at understanding the psyche of the people who perpetuate sexual crimes against women.
Her book - ‘Why Men Rape’, investigates answers to this urgent question and was part of the multimedia gender journalism and activism project, which involved her meeting and staying with 9 sexual offenders and their families as an undercover journalist.
Ms. Kaushal Tara is a writer and media consultant whose first book, Why Men Rape: An Indian Undercover Investigation. In addition, Part of the multimedia gender journalism and activism project Why Men Rape, has been widely and well received; and shortlisted for a few awards.
Over the years, she has come to be seen as a public intellectual in the gender. Also, sexuality, sociocultural and gender violence spaces.
In a detailed conversation with the moderator, Ms. Deepali Chopra, Ms. Kaushal spoke at length about the process of writing the book, her experiences of speaking and living with sexual predators, their mindsets and their socio cultural realities. She also spoke about how patriarchy perpetuates sexual crimes especially in our country.
Taking about the event, FLO Lucknow Chapter Chairperson Pooja Garg, "sexual violence against women is reaching epidemic proportions and the need of the hour is to talk about it across all forums of society.
We hope that this conversation will go a long way in addressing sexual violence into the very centre of the collective thinking. Also, motivate us to promote the right of women and girls everywhere to equality and to be free from violence.
