FICCI FLO organized a Virtual Event "A Face to Face with Dr. Kiran Bedi-The daughter of India"

This event was a part of a series of talk organised by FLO, Head Office, called the Eminent Women Series. Talking about the series FLO National President, Mrs. Jahanbi Pookan said, "The success of one woman is a source of inspiration for other women. Keeping this thought in mind, we began the Eminent Women Series where we learn from the lives and successes of women who are truly remarkable and have made a difference to society. And who better to learn from than India's favorite daughter, Dr. Kiran Bedi."

FCCI FLO:

Dr. Kiran Bedi is a retired Indian Police Service officer, social activist, former tennis player and politician who is the current Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. She is the first female Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and started her service in 1972.

She remained in service for 35 years before taking voluntary retirement in 2007 as Director General of Police, Bureau of Police Research and Development , to focus on social activism and writing. She has written several books, and runs the India Vision Foundation.

She also hosted a court show Aap Ki Kachehri. She was one of the key leaders of the 2011 Indian anti-corruption movement, and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in January 2015. On 22 May 2016, Bedi was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

During the question answer session, Dr. Bedi talked about different aspects of her life, her family, her tennis career, her experiences as the first IPS officer and as a public administrator.

She regaled the audience by sharing several anecdotes which included one on towing wrongly parked cars during her stint in the department of traffic in New Delhi including the car of the then Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi. This earned her the moniker- Crane Bedi.

She also shared a peek into her college days where she used to be the only woman riding a bike in Amritsar.

She stressed on the fact that all women can achieve their potential through hard work and dedication and that gender has no role to play, especially in todays world.

She talked in detail about her passion for writing and her work in fighting crimes against women and abolition of drug use.

Virtual Event:

The event was conducted in an interview format where Dr. Bedi was being questioned by Mrs. Pookan and the event chair, Mrs Puja Garg who is the Chairperson for FLO Lucknow Chapter.

Speaking about the event, Mrs. Puja Garg said, " It was an honour to host Dr. Kiran Bedi, who is the true embodiment of an empowered woman who in turn works at transforming society and uplifting people who need our help. It was an uplifting experience to listen to a trailblazer like her whose gargantuan canvas of work is the stuff of folklore. She inspired and motivated FLO members by her mere presence."

This event was attended by FLO members from all 17 chapters, all across India.
