Don't interfere in triple talaq issue; Naseemuddin tells PM Modi

Fatehpur: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui on Monday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to interfere in the 'triple talaq' issue as it belonged to his community.

Addressing an election meeting here, he said, "PM Modi should not poke his nose in the triple talaq issue as it is in the interests of my community, and we will deal with it in the court."

Taking a dig at the PM's estranged wife, Naseemuddin said, "The Prime Minister should tell us what is the difference between divorcing and abandoning?" adding that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah should help his elder brother (PM Modi) in settlement with his wife.

BJP, in its election manifesto for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, has promised to fight for the rights of Muslim women and interfere in the triple talaq case.

"PM Modi will return to Gujarat if BSP supremo Mayawati becomes the UP chief minister for the fifth time," he asserted.
