Lucknow: City's pride Lucknow Metro has been slapped with a whopping fine of over Rs 50 lakhs for being involved in illegal soil mining during the construction of underground station at Amausi's Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport.

The executive organization of Lucknow Metro has been blamed for not taking necessary permissions from the district administration and also not paying the royalty amount before carrying out the construction work.

The district administration action comes after it came to know about the illegal soil mining by the Lucknow Metro contractors, who were selling the soil at arbitrary prices.

The Lucknow District Magistrate imposed a fine of Rs 53 lakh and 15 thousand and also asked the Lucknow Metro officials to take necessary mining related permissions for further construction of the station.

ADM, Finance, Shatrughan Singh said, "Recently it was found that the underground construction work at the Amausi station was being done without giving royalty to the district administration. Lucknow Metro officials have been made aware about the same through a letter."

Singh added, "Officials have been asked to take necessary permissions from the city administration to dig the soil."

Lucknow Metro spokesperson Amit Srivastava, however, said that Lucknow Metro has not yet received any copy of the letter and it will take required action accordingly.
