Controversial Hathras DM among 17 IAS officers transferred in major UP reshuffle

In a major administrative reshuffle Thursday night, the Uttar Pradesh government transferred 11 IAS officers, including Hathras DM Praveen Kumar Laxkar who has been moved to Mirzapur in east UP.

Parveen Kumar Laxkar who faced flak for the cremation of the woman in the dead of the night was among 11 district magistrates transferred in a reshuffle.

Laxkar had come under severe criticisms from several quarters, including the Allahabad High Court. In addition, for his handling of the gangrape and murder case of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in the district.

Hathras DM:

In its submission to Allahabad High Court, the state had justified its decision of not transferring Laxkar, saying the demand for his transfer was made by political parties with an “oblique motive” to “exert pressure”. The High Court had asked the government whether it was fair to allow the DM to continue in Hathras during the pendency of the investigation as he was in the thick of things during the illegal cremation” of the woman.

Ramesh Ranjan, the Joint managing director of UP Jal Nigam, has been made the new DM of Hathras.

Look at the shuffle

Markandey Shahi has been made district magistrate of Gonda.

Shruti has been given the charge of DM at Balrampur, Nitin Bansal has been made Pratapgarh district magistrate.

Navneet Singh Chahal has been made DM Mathura, Sanjeev Singh has been made DM of Chandauli.

S Rajlingam has been appointed as DM Kushinagar, Abhisek Singh has been given charge of DM Sonbhadra.

Apurva Dubey has been appointed DM of Fatehpur and Sunil Kumar Verma has been made district magistrate of Auraiya.

Also, Kanchan Verma has been made managing director, UP medical supply corporation.

In addition, Sushil Kumar Patel has been made Joint managing director of Jal Nigam, Lucknow.

Furthermore, Bhupendra S Chaudhary has been appointed as special secretary, irrigation and water resources.

Sarvagya Ram Mishra has been made special secretary, trade tax.

Rupesh Kumar has been appointed as special secretary, sugar and cane development.
