Objectionable post on Whatsapp leads to communal tension in Kanpur

Kanpur: Communal tension gripped the Nauabasta area of South City in Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh following an objectionable post of multimedia messaging application Whatsapp on Tuesday evening.

Enraged over the objectionable post, the members of a specific community demanded the immediate arrest of the youth who posted the objectionable content on group, superintendent of police (SP) South City Dr Sanjay Kumar said.

Sensing the sensitivity of the matter, additional police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

• The mob even blocked the Machariya intersection.
• Stone pelting was also reported in the area.
• The situation was brought under control after the intervention of police and senior district officials.
• No FIR has been registered in this regard, Dr Kumar added.
