UP CM must resign, says SP MLA Nafees Ahmad on Gorakhpur tragedy

Azamgarh: Taking stock of the Gorakhpur medical college tragedy, Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator Nafees Ahmad on Saturday attacked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath saying how a person who himself has no kids could understand the plight of the people who lost their kids.

"How a person who himself doesn’t have kids could understand the pain of the people who have lost their kids in the tragedy," said Ahmad, who is the SP MLA from Gopalpur constituency here, taking a dig at the recent tragedy at the BRD Medical College that occurred due to shortage of oxygen cylinders at the hospital and has led to deaths of at least 60 children in past three days.

"Being the MP from Gorakhpur constituency and Chief Minister of the state, Yogi Adityanath must take the moral responsibility of the incident and step down with immediate effect," he added.

It is worth mentioning that the tragedy has struck the children, including many infants, at the medical college which has been receiving huge funds from the state to tackle encephalitis, especially after Adityanath became the Chief Minister.

Attendants and family members of the patients admitted here, however, claim that despite the funds, there were neither doctors, nor proper treatment, adequate medicines or oxygen supply at the medical college.
