After collecting the valuables, the thief, under the influence of alcohol, turned on the AC in the drawing room and fell asleep. Early in the morning, neighbors noticed the door of the house was open and informed both the property owner and the RWA officials. A crowd gathered, and the police were subsequently informed. The police arrived at the scene, arrested the thief, identified as Kapil, and initiated further legal proceedings.

Dr. Sunil Pandey, the victim, was previously posted at Balrampur Hospital in Lucknow but was recently transferred to Varanasi.
